How To Create a Cover For Your Pinterest Boards - Latinas in Media

Since I launched Latinas in Media, I’ve been reading and learning more about Pinterest and how to use it in a more effective way. Many people consider Pinterest just another social network or simply a place to spend hours getting inspired and saving ideas in a pin board style. What many do not know is that after Google and YouTube, Pinterest is one of the most important search engines on the Internet.

Did you know that using Pinterest in an optimized way can triple the traffic of your blog?

One of the most important optimization tips focused on branding is to customize your boards by designing covers that fit the style of your brand.

Looking at the profiles of many fellow Latina Bloggers I realized that almost none use this practice. That’s why I wanted to create this brief guide to help you make your Pinterest stand out among the more than 150 million users.

Why create covers for your boards?

Aside from Instagram, Pinterest is one of the most visual social networks that exist. Making a good first impression on your followers will make them stay longer browsing your boards, and they will be more inclined to share your content. That is why it is very important to implement branding strategies in all social networks where you have a presence with your personal brand.

Where would you rather sit? Nothing like making a good first impression!

What is the size required to make a cover?

As in all social networks, Pinterest also has made some changes in their updates. Not only in their algorithm, but also the dimensions of the images. As of today (August 2017), the cover image should be square and with an ideal size of 800 x 800 pixels.

I want to help you optimize your Pinterest account and make it more attractive. That’s why I designed a template in Canva, very easy to use, which you can download by clicking here.

Let’s design the covers for your Pinterest boards!

It is recommended to use a photo that has enough space to write the title of the cover. Use an image, text and colors that are aligned with your personal brand. Here is a good example, the Pinterest profile of the Latina fashion blogger Sandy Bodeau.

When you finish designing your cover in Canva (you can also use Photoshop or PicMonkey), proceed to download it on your computer in PNG format.

How do I upload the covers to my boards?

To upload the cover of your board, go to the top corner and select the + icon.

Click on “Upload Image”

Select the image from your computer and use your blog or website as a URL.

Click “Continue.”

Select the board to which you are going to assign this cover by clicking on “save”.
